Executive Report
Project Reflection: John Deere
Designing this executive report was a rewarding experience, made smoother by my four years producing Gallaudet University’s Annual Report of Achievements. That experience informed my approach to this project, with a strong emphasis on visual storytelling, hierarchy, and clarity. While the imagery leans primarily toward agriculture, I intentionally incorporated select construction visuals to reflect the broader scope of heavy equipment applications and create a more balanced narrative.
Although I bring more than 25 years of professional design experience to this work, I genuinely enjoyed revisiting foundational principles through the Visual Communications course. This project encouraged me to slow down and be more intentional, particularly in areas that have become second nature over time. One area of focus was data visualization. The stacked bar charts and pie chart were designed using non-analogous, contrasting colors for adjacent segments to improve clarity, legibility, and accessibility while remaining cohesive with John Deere–inspired branding.
While much of the data presented does not correspond directly to the year 2015, it was generated strictly for placement and design demonstration purposes. The chart structures themselves are based on real-world applications, adapted from data visualizations I designed for Gallaudet University’s Annual Report of Achievements in 2022 and 2025. Color palettes were adjusted to align with John Deere’s branding, and a photograph of the Chairman was used intentionally to represent the individual serving in that role during 2015, as indicated in the text provided by the professor for this report.
Overall, this project reaffirmed that even with decades of experience, there is always room to refine one’s approach. I appreciated the opportunity to apply restraint, revisit fundamentals, and thoughtfully integrate new insights gained through this course.
